Can everyone please post by tomorrow (on this site) what your current status is? This should include if you have produced your test parts, shipped date, or projected completion/ shipping dates. Include a picture if you can. This information will give everyone a sense of where we are at and will give John and I an idea of whether our timeline is realistic or not. This large group work is new for me and I assume that is the case for most of us.
Century will post on here tomorrow by 3. I need to check with my co worker and my student who runs the parts to get an accurate report for all. I know that if our parts are not ready yet, they will be by Monday afternoon.

Parts are starting to be mailed to Sherwood for assembly of our prototyped parts. I just placed an order for 100 more bearings from http://www.skatebearings.com/. Thanks to Trish, we got a good bulk price.

Gears from Kelso HS, and 2 possible bases. Anyone got another suggestion for a base? Keep the prototypes coming.

How about something made of corion (fake marble)? We can get that pretty easily from ADEC in Newberg. Routers out well.

We are still working on the dimensions for the brass rods. We can't determine the rod length UNTIL we assemble prototypes using parts from everyone. When Century and Sherwood swapped parts we had to do some fitting due to different materials used between 2 schools. That was relatively easy, but with a larger group I anticipate some modifications.
It turns out the the length of each of the brass rods varies depending on the thickness of the material used, the thickness of the washers used and how far the bearings are set into the gear/flywheel parts.
We used Baltic Birch plywood for all the wooden parts. It has a thickness of 0.472". The washers used were 0.054" thick. The bearings were set into the gears/flywheel with 0.045" above the gear/flywheel face. One gear had the bearing set 0.045" below the face of the gear (this was done to provide enough clearance for a small screw and washer on the end of one of the brass rods).
Our dimensions for the brass rods are as follows:
3x 3.28" (2 for the frame and 1 for the top gear cluster)
1x 2.086" (for the center gear cluster)
1x 1.02" (for the crank gear)
3x .472" (for the flywheel weights)
Wait until you try and put one together.
