K,

A laser is the 'must-have' tool for your classroom.  I find many brands that all seem to work.  There seems to be a bit more choices these days.  A few years ago the Universal and Epilog were the prevalent ones in classrooms.  Now some of the off-shore brands and lesser known brands are showing up, in classrooms, with good results.

Noise:   You will need to exhaust it outside.  This might cause some extra noise. The lasers themselves are not too noisy.

Cost:   Varies depending on size and power.  Make sure you can cut up to 1/4" plywood.  Even though you will be cutting a lot of paper and 1/8" plywood.

These devices are well supported by education re-sellers so you have some choices 'out there'.  These re-sellers provide 'support' after the purchase.  Remember it is NOT free and will be included in the pricing.  Ask around in your area and see which machines people are buying and using.  They are your best resource.

Nice to hear from you.  bk
