What is Thermal Conductivity. Thermal conductivity or heat conduction for a material can be defined as the time rate of heat flow in a material for a given temperature difference. i.e. Rate of Heat Transfer, H = Δ Q Δ t or Q t. To understand this let's consider a metal rod of uniform cross-section A and length L and both ends of the rod are Thermal conductivity is the ability of a given material to conduct or transfer heat. It is generally denoted by the symbol 'k' or sometimes( lambda). The reciprocal of this physical quantity is referred to as thermal resistivity. Materials with high thermal conductivity are used in heat sinks, on the other hand, materials with low values of (lambda) used as thermal insulators. Learn the thermal conductivity formula here. When a material allows the passage of electricity through itself is said to have electric conductivity. Instead, if you allow the passage of the heat it is spoken of Thermal conductivity. It can be indicated, therefore, that thermal conductivity is the property of those elements that enable the transmission of heat. This physical property implies that, when a material has thermal conductivity, the heat passes from the body of higher temperature to another of lower temperature that is in conductivity is considered most likely to be rep¬ resentative of that of the pure material. The higher values are associated with the more pure material, adequate annealing, and large crystal size. In the commonly accepted theory for the conductivity crystalsof metals, there are two mechan¬ isms for directionthe conduction of heat. In pure metals Thermal conductivity refers to the ability of a given material to conduct/transfer heat. It is generally denoted by the symbol 'k' but can also be denoted by 'λ' and 'κ'. The reciprocal of this quantity is known as thermal resistivity.
