SAP is a global standard when it comes to managing and displaying electronic business processes. Ideally, data is exchanged with customers, suppliers and business partners via a single system. In a typical scenario, the SAP adapter receives an IDOC call from the SAP system, processes the request, and passes the response to the SAP system. IDOCs are used for sending and receiving "business" documents such as sales orders, for example, to or from a trading partner's SAP system or an external program. Although the SAP system supports a number of port types to send and receive IDOCs (such as file port, CPIC port), the SAP adapter supports sending and receiving IDOCs via the tRFC port.
