The Girl Guides Association started as an offshoot of the Boy Scouts, founded in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell. In 1909, girls gate-crashed the first Boy ScoutGuides were founded in 1910, and due to demand (and some Guide units recruiting underage girls as members, or as 'mascots'), a new group was founded for girls Brownies were the first Branch of Guiding.
