Check the lense and other lenses on the body. Shoot test shots with 7d connected to a monitor. Also, if shooting in manual focus check your eye adjustment. Exposure Compensation makes the pictures lighter or darker. You set it by turning the big rear dial; be sure the rear LOCK > slide switch isn't set to lock.
